Day 1: Travel to Minehead where your first night's accommodation has been booked.
Day 2 Walk Minehead to Porlock (9.5miles)
An interesting first day's walk, this is an isolated section of the path where the rolling expanse of Exmoor reaches down to the sea. The last section into Porlock is quite different the land being a mixture of farmland and marshland behind a shingle bank.
Day 3 Walk Porlock to Lynmouth (12.3 miles)
The walk starts on wooded cliffs and then once across the Devon, Somerset border the cliffs become more open and give great views over Lynton and Lynmouth.
Day 4 Walk Lynmouth to Combe Martin (13.5 miles)
A tough day's walk on a remote section of the path. There are rocky crags, the isolated cove of Heddon's Mouth and the highest point on the Coastal Path "Great Hangman" with its 244m of vertical cliff.
Day 5 Walk Combe Martin to Woolacoombe (12.6 miles)
After the previous day's isolation a section of today's path runs alongside a coast road. There are still spectacular views of dark forbidding cliffs and peaceful rocky inlets. The enormous beach at Woolacombe will normally surfers.
Day 6 Walk Woolacoombe to Braunton (14.7 miles)
The first half of the day is across the huge sandy beach of Woolacombe backed by its huge dunes. The second half the sandy dunes of Saunton Sands and the muddy banks of the River Taw.
Day 7 Walk Braunton to Instow (13.3 miles)
A flat day continuing along the banks of the River Taw and then through marshes to Instow. This area is has a great deal of bird life.
Day 8 Walk Instow to Westward Ho (11.8 miles)
An easy day mostly following the banks of the River Torridge. Taking in the old port of Bideford and the Fishing village of Appledore.
WALKING DIFFICULTY: This is a coastal walk, for the most part along quite high cliffs with quite a lot of ups and downs. It will not be beyond the average walker but distance covered per hour will be low. We would only recommend this walk to those who have some experience of long distance walking.

Minehead to Westward Ho
Martine - August 2017
Dear Tim,
Even we’re already one month back to home, the pictures we collected during our vacations in Devon are still very present. We enjoyed our trip and all the B&B accommodations, with a particular mention to the Mayfield house in Westward Ho! And Sally’s wonderful breakfast. But also the home made rhubarb-ginger marmelade from the Brookfield house in Braunton and the home made honey in the Springfield house in Instow. And so lovely people in all places we visited. And our final stay in Hartland Quay was just an experience that will keep in mind.
About the walking tour, we would just like to mention that the tarka trail is probably much nicer and comfortable when cycling then for walking. Honestly this part was a little boring. Again all the gardens we visited were wonderful, of course the Rosemoor garden where we spent all the day, even the Taxi drives were quite expensive due to Sunday’s extra-charge. But as well Marewood Hill and Docton Mill gardens are both nice and quite places with pretty tea rooms. Also we enjoyed traveling by train that allows us to appreciate the green landscape. So we will definitively come back to make another part of the coast path, probably in the Land's End region.
Thank you so much for your recommendations and travel organisation.
