St Mawes Castle: opening times 10:00 to 16:00 The twin and junior Castle to Falmouth's Pendennis.  It was built between 1539 and 1545, it briefly saw action in the English Civil War when it was surrendered by the Loyalists to the Parliamentarians after a seige of just 1 hour.  It is not well defended from the Land and was thus considered indefensible.  It has a collection of cannons on display and features are the gunner's rest room and the "oubliette" where prisonners were held.  There are stunning sea views from its battlements and it is just a short 5 minute walk from the centre of St Mawe...

Nearwater Walking Holiday's longest ever itinerary a 52 night holiday. Setting off on 2nd April from Minehead Geoff Scott and Barry Mitchell started a 52 day itinerary around the entire South West Coastal Path finishing in Poole on 23rd May. They had only 2 rest days, one in Padstow and one in St Mawes staying at Nearwater, our Bed and Breakfast.  The main picture shows them with me on the 2nd May before setting off on their first wet day of the walk (not bad after 28 dry days). This picture shows them at the end of their walk on the 23rd May.  Their quote to me was that they felt pretty epic...

The Cotswold Way – Starting 1st November 2015 Day 1 – Left the car at Bristol Parkway having driven up from Plymouth, then caught 3 trains to arrive in Moreton in Marsh.  No taxi rank but found a number for Campden Cars and 10 minutes later a very nice lady called Liz in a smart Mercedes Estate car turned up to take us to Chipping Campden.  We were staying on a special deal at the King’s Hotel, which included supper, but having been invited out for supper by some friends nearby converted this into staying in their best room with no supper.  So after luxuriating in a huge bath in the bedroom we...
